The Monday After Every Sunday | What the Room Cannot See E6
There is a feeling that arrives between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Mondays that has a name only worship leaders use. It is not depression. It is not failure. It is not even sadness, exactly. It is something more like — empty.
The room is gone. The adrenaline is gone. Your body is heavier than yesterday. The text from someone who said the music was great does not feel like it should. This is the Monday after every Sunday. It is not Easter-specific. It is not big-event-specific. It happens every week to people who carry a room.
Anchored in 1 Kings 19:4-5. Elijah, the day after Mount Carmel, is in the wilderness under a juniper tree asking God to let him die. The man who carried the room into the presence of God is now alone in the desert wishing he were dead.
God does not rebuke him. God does not lecture him. God lets him sleep. Then an angel comes and feeds him. Bread. Water. Twice. With a long sleep in between. Before the still small voice. Before the cave. Before the next assignment. Sleep, food, and quiet.
If you are listening to this on a Monday: eat something real. Drink water. If you can take a nap, take a nap. Do not make any large decisions today. Today is a juniper tree day. The most spiritual thing you can do is rest.
